The effects of time and neglect…decay and forgotten architecture.

With a deep interest in place and how that shapes us, I am continually seeking the interstitial connection of family, dysfunction, and the symmetry and parallels of nature. As a visual artist, my focus is on deteriorating architecture. Designed to be huge forces of permanence, these structures are continually being challenged, destroyed, and forgotten. They possess an energized present—and presence—as they attempt to escape their fragmented reality.

What excites me

Emotional truth is always the goal, no matter the genre.

Compose by intuition.

Old Buildings

As a nature and architectural photographer, my work focuses on the interconnectedness of dwellings, mineral elements and organic growth. Among the clutter—the shards of wood, layers of rubble, chipping coats of paint—there remains a gentle resolve. These places, often on the brink of ruin, possess an energized present–and presence–as they attempt to escape their fragmented reality; it is a story which tells us who we are.

Connecting Generations from Before

When I’m creating a narrative, I begin by compiling a mood board that captures the intended literary style. My initial focus is on mining personal archives, ephemera, and old photos. I also seek old census records and anything I believe will help me enhance the project. My primary goal is to immerse the reader in a world I’ve created through my writing. I want readers to immerse themselves in time, place, and space.

Warm, Layered, Lived-In Interiors

A home is not just a pile of lumber, but a carefully curated place of old and new, textures, pattern, and color. I aim to blend present with past, heirlooms with meaning and new traditions. Each space should captivate visually, tell a story, and invite the occupant to dwell in elegance.

Travel

I love to travel. It connects me with the land, the people, and it stimulates me visually and intellectually. I’ve traveled throughout the world and it always offers a deeper understanding of place and home, and ultimately, humanity.
